Northern Arizona Space Quest
Average trip length:
12 hours
Tour Earth’s best-preserved meteorite landing site, Meteor Crater, on our Northern Arizona Space Quest. Located just outside Winslow, Arizona, is this 50,000-year-old massive crater. While the size of the asteroid is unknown, the crater it left behind is .75 miles across. Did you know the Apollo 11 space capsule is housed at Meteor Crater? Learn about how Meteor Crater was studied and used as training for astronauts in the 1960s and 70s.
We will spend the afternoon at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff. Students will visit the Giovale Open Deck Observatory where they can look at the sun through a telescope. They will also learn about the historic telescopes at the observatory and how they are used. The program will end with an interactive group science experiment.
