Crater Quest

Average trip length: 15 hours

Join us as we travel to the northern part of our state, visiting Lowell Observatory, Meteor Crater, and Sunset Crater Volcano. Our first stop will be Lowell Observatory to partake in the Cosmic Cart program. Students will watch a live science presentation demonstrating the different elements of the planets in our solar system. While at Lowell Observatory, students will also tour the telescope that was used to discover the dwarf planet Pluto.

Our next stop is Earth’s best-preserved meteorite landing site, Meteor Crater. Located just outside Winslow, Arizona, is this 50,000-year-old massive crater. Take in the views as your Project Exploration instructor teaches about this historic landmark. Our final stop will take us to the unique terrain of Sunset Crater Volcano. This cinder cone erupted around the time of 1085, leaving behind a lava-covered landscape. We will enjoy a quick dinner at Peter Piper Pizza before relaxing on the motor coach for a safe drive back to the school.
